KOA STRING QUARTET
Teaching
The Koa String Quartet is a group passionately committed to impact and community. We strive to make repertoire and programming personal as we build our performance career and cultivate a reputation as pedagogues. Our goal is to play music that is relevant to us and to the communities we visit in order to create a meaningful concert experience. We hope audiences remember us for our energy, vitality, and creative musical expression.
Education and outreach are core pillars of what drives us as a quartet. In October of 2025, Koa held a weeklong residency in Minneapolis with the MacPhail Center for Music where we worked with students at 5 local high schools, rehearsed side-by-side with an amateur adult orchestra, taught a chamber music masterclass, and performed 6 free community concerts.
We are also the Quartet-in-Residence at Kisa's nonprofit, the Hana Hou Music Program, where we strive to embody Hana Hou's mission of providing music education in Maui, Hawai'i and to be a free musical resource to the community regardless of background, artistic ability, or economic circumstance.
In our current community of Colorado, Koa coaches string students each month from El Sistema Denver and Fairview High School in Boulder.
